10 Things to Know About Toilet Seats

1. Due to sanitary reasons, we cannot accept any returns for toilet seats, bidet seats, washlets, toilets, or urinals once the box or packaging has been opened. Only if the package has been unopened can we return the product with a restocking fee.

2. There are two basic toilet seat types: elongated and round. Elongated seats are the seat of choice for most standard bathrooms, while round seats are ideal for smaller bathrooms.

3. A quick, simple measurement will help you determine whether you have round toilet seats or elongated toilet seats on your toilets. If it measures about 16.5 inches from front to back, it's a round seat. Elongated seats measure approximately 18.5 inches.

4. Cleaning toilet seats should be done with soap and water. The use of scouring powders and pads can cause abrasions on the seat. Even some disinfectants are overly harsh and can cause damage.

5. Eliminating bacteria during cleaning doesn't require harsh chemicals, which can be damaging to your health and toilet seat. Gentler antiseptic cleansers that are slightly alkaline will kill germs and bacteria.

6. Slow-close hinges for toilet seats help eliminate accidental slams. These allow the toilet seat to slowly close over a period of about 15 seconds.

7. Toilet seats are available in a surprising variety of styles, ranging from traditional to contemporary to novelty models that have a personality all their own.

8. Antimicrobial toilet seats actually have antimicrobial agents integrated into the seat itself to inhibit mold and bacteria growth.

9. Installing a new toilet seat is a fairly easy process that can be done in minutes with a few basic tools. The trickiest part is removing your old toilet seat, which should be done carefully if your toilet is porcelain. If the bolts are calcified, spray them with all-purpose lubricant and wait 5-10 minutes to try again.

10. A potty-chair is a child's first toilet seat, so allowing your child to help select one will give him or her a greater investment in potty training. Some convertible models start as separate potty chairs, but convert to adapter seats and step stools for the real toilet.
